Description

The second-generation Chevelle hit 1968 like an A-bomb. The new A-body’s fastback styling and sharp body lines absolutely seduced the buying public. A new frame utilized a shorter 112-inch wheelbase and hosted a capable yet comfortable coil-spring suspension that impressed enthusiasts and commuters alike. And thanks to differing price points for the 300, Concours, Malibu, and Nomad, there was a Chevelle for every budget.

But the muscular SS 396 Sport Coupe was the model buyers lusted over. It wore a twin-domed hood, black grille and body trim, red-stripe tires, and bucket seats, and was equipped with a powerful big block V8. And while the 396 was available in a racy, solid-lifter 375-horsepower version, most had torquey 325- and 350-horsepower 396s with hydraulic valvetrains. When combined with the driver’s choice of a manual or automatic transmission, the SS 396 made for a reliable and formidable opponent during the horsepower wars.

Thanks to a modern, fuel-injected 540ci big block, this customized 1968 Chevelle SS has enough power to hang with today’s performance cars. Quality upgrades like digital gauges and custom bucket seats give this creature comfort, and the exterior shines with stunning candy paint shot in 2025, along with upgraded wheels hiding four-wheel disc brakes.

This thoroughly upgraded Chevelle is now offered with a clean Ohio title.

Additional Information

The seller states, “I have attached a receipt from when it was at Big 3 Racing for six months last year getting finished. I spent nearly $24,000 for them to replace many parts, and have it finished and tuned. The day after I got the car back, their shop burned down along with their computers, and I was told my dyno records were gone. They did tell me verbally the motor was making nearly 700 horsepower.”
