Description

For 1968, Chevrolet pretty much left well enough alone with its instant hit, the Camaro. The ’67 edition had proven to be a worthy answer to the Mustang, with sales numbers looking strong and Camaro winning 10 of 13 races in the Trans-Am Series. With that kind of momentum, there was no need for major changes.

Some thoughtful minor alterations were made, however. For example, the vent windows that framed the A-pillars were eliminated. With those gone, Chevy had to do something about getting airflow to the driver, so GM installed air vents below the dash, a feature it called “Astro-Ventilation.”

Those 1968 Camaro buyers who chose the Super Sports (SS) package received a larger engine (350 or optional 396 cu-in V8), chrome inserts on the hood, multi-leaf rear suspension, power front disc brakes, and special badges and striping. The Rally Sport (RS) option added a blacked-out grille, concealed headlights, and chrome moldings.

Those who wanted the very best Camaro they could get chose both packages to create a Camaro RS/SS like this one. The fully restored 1968 Camaro RS/SS Convertible came with the more powerful SS engine option, a 396 V8 producing 325 horsepower, and has been refinished in its original Matador Red paint.
