522 Stroker-Powered 1967 Plymouth GTX Hardtop

Description

Introduced for 1967, the Plymouth GTX was positioned as Chrysler's premium muscle car, combining Belvedere styling with standard 440 Super Commando V8 power, upscale trim, and performance-oriented equipment. Marketed as the "gentleman's muscle car," the GTX offered strong performance straight from the factory while maintaining a higher level of comfort and refinement than many of its contemporaries.

The seller and the seller's father purchased this 1967 Plymouth GTX in 2012 out of Abilene, Texas, and the car reportedly underwent an engine-out repaint in 2025 in its factory Sable White with red sport stripes over a Premium Red vinyl bucket-seat interior.

Within the last 1,000 miles, the seller is said to have installed a big-block V8 stroked to 522ci and fitted with a forged crankshaft and connecting rods, roller rocker arms, an Edelbrock intake manifold, aluminum heads, and Mopar finned valve covers. Dyno testing performed at Carolina Machine Engines in October 2018 revealed a 501-hp and 617 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels.

The modified V8 engine is paired with a Performance Automatic Street Smart 727 automatic transmission, and braking is handled by Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes. Additionally, the car features an aluminum radiator with electric cooling fans, while the rear axle is said to have been overhauled and the driveshaft has been replaced.

This modified 1967 Plymouth GTX Hardtop is now offered with Galen's Tag Service documentation and a clean Massachusetts title in the seller’s name.

Ownership History

From the seller: "My father and I purchased this car back in 2012. The car originally came from Abilene, Texas, where it was always garage kept. Original features include a rarely optioned two-tone red interior with matching red exterior stripes. Most of the interior is original with the exception of the carpet. The car received a complete engine-out repaint a couple years ago. The numbers and options are matching and have been authenticated by Mopar expert Galen Govier, and the paperwork is included.

To my knowledge, the chassis has approximately 100,600 miles, while the engine has about 1,000 miles since completion. The car features a balanced and blueprinted 522 stroker engine producing approximately 500 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque."
