Description
First introduced in 1964 as a Cutlass performance package, 4-4-2 stood for a four-barrel carburetor, four speed, and dual exhaust. By 1967, the 4-4-2 had evolved into a standalone model offered exclusively on the premium Cutlass Supreme. A standard 400 cu-in V8 engine delivered 350 horsepower, with an optional W-30 package adding a functional cold air induction system for those wanting even more performance.
Buyers could choose between a four-speed manual with Hurst linkage, or the newly introduced three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic, as seen here. Styling updates included a revised grille and a distinctive split headlight design. And thanks to standard front and rear anti-sway bars, the 4-4-2 was a groundbreaking muscle car that handled as well as it accelerated.
This beautiful Burgundy Mist 1967 4-4-2 was reportedly restored in 2017, and is now powered by a date-correct E-code 400 V8 wearing C-code heads. It has no factory W-30 documentation, but it wears correct W-30 components including red fender wells, a chrome outside air induction air cleaner with dual hoses and air intakes, a heavy-duty radiator, and a trunk-mounted battery.
