Description
Introduced for the 1967 model year, the Mercury Cougar offered a more refined and upscale alternative to the Ford Mustang, blending luxury-focused appointments with performance‑oriented drivetrains. The XR-7 represented the top trim level, adding premium interior upgrades, unique exterior styling cues, and model‑exclusive features such as toggle‑switch instrumentation and wood‑grain accents.
This modified 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7 is finished in charcoal metallic grey over a custom two‑tone black and tan vinyl interior. Power comes from a rebuilt 347 cubic-inch stroker V8 backed by a Stage 2–spec AOD automatic transmission conversion. A bare‑metal body refurbishment was reportedly performed, with the seller stating that many items were rebuilt or replaced, including hardware, bushings, wiring, trim, the interior, suspension, and mechanical systems.
Additional upgrades include aluminum heads, headers, a dual exhaust system, electronic headlamp doors, front disc brakes, an aluminum radiator, Edelbrock AVS2 carburetion, and Shelby‑style ribbed Cougar valve covers.
This modified 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7 is now offered maintenance and refurbishment documentation and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
