Description

Entering production in March 1958, the Austin-Healey Sprite was officially unveiled later that year during the Monte Carlo Rally, certifying its sporting intentions. Focused on bringing affordable sports cars to the masses, the Sprite utilized a unibody to not only lower production costs but yield a stiffer chassis and independent front suspension with rack-and-pinion steering only added to its handling capabilities. A basic sports car with a simple yet functional design meant there were no superfluous features. With increasing demand from customers, the Mark II and later variants offered more refinement and features than the original, like a proper trunk, roll-up windows, and increasing engine size for added performance until the end of production in 1971.

Highlights

  • Powered by a 1275 cc inline-four cylinder with twin SU carburetors paired with a four-speed manual transmission

  • Finished in dark green with a black leatherette interior and matching folding soft top

  • Equipped with period-correct lap belts

  • Outfitted with Minilite style alloy wheels with ‘AH’ branded center caps

  • Factory left-hand drive

  • The steering wheel has been upgraded to a wood-rimmed four-spoke design

  • As per the consignor, maintenance work over the last three years has included replacing the brake master cylinder, brakes, wheels, tires, clutch cylinders, fuel tank, and the fuel sending unit, in addition to rebuilding the engine and transmission 1,200 miles ago during a cosmetic restoration in 2016
