Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Introduced in the mid-1960s, the Honda CL77 — or 305 Scrambler — was designed as an off-road version of the Honda C77 Dream and the CB77 Super Hawk. The Scrambler was equipped with a 305cc overhead-cam parallel twin engine, producing 28.5 horsepower at 9,000 rpm, contrasting sharply from the low-revving European and American bikes of the day.

Running straight pipes with small internal baffles, the CL77 featured a loud and very distinct sound from the 180-degree firing order of its parallel twin. The motorcycle's upswept exhaust along the left side increased ground clearance, a necessity for off-road riding. The frame was strengthened with a front downtube, and the electric starter was eliminated to reduce weight. It had a small-capacity painted fuel tank, fork boots, 19-inch front and rear wheels, coarser-tread tires, a taller handlebar with a cross-brace, and abbreviated fenders.

The CL77 305 Scrambler was designed to handle both street and off-road conditions, making it a versatile choice for riders, and the bike quickly gained popularity. Its success helped establish Honda's reputation in the off-road market while paving the way for future models.

Ownership History

The Florida owner of this 1966 Honda CL77 305 Scrambler bought the motorcycle in July 2024 from a man who intended to keep it in his living room but decided he already owned too many motorcycles. “This bike turns heads. Everyone says it looks like it just came off the showroom floor. It runs great, and its Type 1 twin-cylinder engine makes a deep, melodic sound (with the Snuff-or-Nots open or closed) that is addictive.”
