Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
“Step out front in ’66 … in a Rocket Action Oldsmobile!” Oldsmobile’s full-size cars were restyled in 1965, including the flagship Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight. The Ninety-Eight’s hood center now extended into a “V” and a kick-up on the rear fender. The Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission was improved for smoother shifts and quicker acceleration, a split-back front seat with center armrest became available on two-door models, and the trunk space increased by four cubic feet. The 1966 Ninety-Eights were little changed from the previous year, except for vertical “blade” front fenders, similar to what appeared on the new Toronado. There were five Ninety-Eight models: a two-door Sports Coupe, four-door Town Sedan, four-door Luxury Sedan, four-door Holiday Hardtop, and a stylish, luxurious Convertible costing $4,420 (when a ’66 VW Beetle cost $1,585).
This 1966 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Convertible is big enough to comfortably accommodate a family while capturing much of the era’s free-wheeling flair. Yet these cars are quite rare, as just 4,568 were built that year. Big, luxurious, powerful — just what a company’s rocket action flagship should be.
