By the time Porsche produced the final 356 in 1965, seventeen years of development had refined the car's air-cooled flat-four and lightweight chassis into something close to definitive. The 356C brought four-wheel disc brakes to the lineup for the first time, and the SC engine — a 1,582cc unit producing 95 horsepower — represented the peak of what Porsche could extract from the naturally-aspirated pushrod architecture before the 911 arrived to rewrite the formula entirely. The result was the most sorted, most capable, and most complete 356 Porsche ever built, and the one that collectors have consistently sought above all others in the model's long production run.

This 1965 356SC Coupe carries a Porsche Cars North America Certificate of Authenticity show production on September 16, 1964, in Signal Red over black leather. It was purchased new on August 12, 1964 in Bangkok, Thailand, by the seller, a U.S. military service member, through Tourists International Est. of Geneva, Switzerland. The vehicle was then delivered to Port of Wilmington (Delaware) and is said to have remained registered in the New England region since. The original purchase agreement is included with the sale, and this 356SC Coupe has been retained by its original owner for 66 years.

Over the course of several years, this 356SC received a comprehensive refurbishment using factory and Stoddard-sourced components throughout. The 1,582cc engine was rebuilt to 1,750cc and transaxle overhauled, the suspension refreshed, and the interior reupholstered in black leather. All chrome and finished components — engine bay and body alike — were refurbished, and a replacement nose section was sourced and fitted by Mountaintop Motorsports in Frederick, Maryland. New windshield and rear glass complete the work.

The most recent service was performed in July 2026 at Erdle Automotive in Laytonsville, Maryland, including carburetor cleaning, fuel system service, and ignition adjustment.

This 1965 Porsche 356SC Coupe is now offered by the seller on behalf of its original owner with its Certificate of Authenticity, original purchase agreement, service records, factory tool kit, matching spare wheel, a spare radio, and a clean Maryland title in the current owner's name.

Ownership History

This 1965 Porsche 356SC was purchased new in Bangkok, Thailand, through Tourists International Est. of Geneva, Switzerland by the seller's father, who was a U.S. serviceman at the time.

From the seller: "I ordered the car while on deployment in Thailand in 1964. The car was then delivered to Port of Wilmington (Delaware) and domiciled in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland to this day under the protection of a garage."
