Description

Introduced in 1946, the Dodge Power Wagon was a direct descendant of the 4x4 trucks that Dodge built for the U.S. military. Ten years after going into civilian production, the Power Wagon — which by then was in its third series and referred to as the MW300 — had evolved into a heavy-duty, one-ton workhorse known for its durability and off-road prowess.

The 1965 Dodge WM300 Power Wagon retained its classic “flat fender” design and was powered by a 251 cubic-inch flathead inline-six engine producing 125 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. It featured a four-speed manual transmission, part-time four-wheel drive, and a power take-off (PTO) system that allowed it to operate auxiliary equipment — making it ideal for farming, forestry, and utility work.

Built on a 126-inch wheelbase and weighing over 5,000 pounds, the WM300 was not designed for speed but for strength and reliability; it maxed out around 60 mph, and it averaged 10–12 mpg. The truck’s spartan interior and utilitarian design emphasized function over comfort, with heavy-duty materials built to withstand harsh environments. Production of the WM300 for the U.S. market ended in 1968 due to changing federal regulations, although export models continued for another decade.
