Introduced in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type stunned the automotive world with its sleek, aerodynamic design, advanced engineering, and remarkable performance — all at a fraction of the cost of its European rivals. Legend has it that when it went on display at the Geneva Motor Show, none other than Enzo Ferrari remarked that the E-type (known as the “XKE” in the U.S.) was the most beautiful car he’d ever seen.
Designed by noted aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer, the XKE was meant to cheat the wind, but its glass covered headlights, long hood, short rear deck, and compound curves also looked great. By 1964, the Series I had matured into a refined yet thrilling machine, retaining the original 3.8-liter inline-six engine triple SU carburetors that delivered 265 horsepower, paired with a four-speed gearbox. The car’s independent rear suspension and four-wheel disc brakes were cutting-edge for the time.
This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I 3.8 Roadster is finished in dark blue paint and outfitted with a color-matching removable hardtop. The car’s black interior includes vinyl-upholstered bucket seats with aftermarket seat belts. Additional features include 15" wire wheels, Smiths instrumentation, and an aftermarket AM/FM radio.
The car is said to have stayed with its prior owner in Illinois since 1977.
This 1964 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer in Missouri with a clean Illinois title.
