Description

With the advent of the Ford Falcon in 1959, General Motors hastily set about developing a direct competitor, appearing as the Chevy II for the 1962 model year. There were to be four series – the 100, 200, 300, and 400 “Nova” series – a nameplate that the model would ultimately adopt across the full lineup in 1969. The top-level Nova 400 was offered in handsome Sport Coupe and Convertible body styles and could be recognized by its rear fender nameplates, additional brightwork, and full-wheel covers. Available engines for the Chevy II at launch included Chevrolet’s inline-four and new Hi-Thrift straight-six, with V8s only available as a costly dealer-installed option. The Chevy II broke new ground for Chevrolet in that it was a unibody design with a separate front subframe, which also made retro-fitting high-performance powertrains relatively easy, resulting in custom builds like the car on offer.
