Description

NO RESERVE

Brooks Stevens, the famous industrial designer, would completely revise Studebaker Hawk for 1962. Taking a rather radical departure from the previous years as Stevens would focus on sleeker European-style design. The radiator grille was redesigned with a strong resemblance to the ones used by Mercedes-Benz, which were being sold through Studebaker dealerships at the time. The tail fins and side moldings were removed, adding to the sleek lines. The interior was redesigned to resemble European-style Gran Turismo cars. Studebaker was years ahead of its American competition with sports-style bucket seats and a full suite of easy-to-read gauges, now commonplace. Motor Trend would describe the car as "a willing and able car definitely in the tradition of the high-speed tourers of Europe." The Gran Turismo Hawk was and still is a dramatic automobile that boldly combined the great traditions of European automotive craftsmanship with luxurious space, comfort, and power demanded by the American public.
