Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Launched in August 1957, the Opel Rekord Olympia P1 was targeted towards an expanding family car market. The “P” in its name stood for panoramic, referring to its wrap-around windscreen and rear window influenced by popular General Motors vehicles of the time. It was offered in four-door sedan and three-door station wagon body styles as well as the desirable two-door saloon. Opel produced over 800,000 P1 models, over 50% of which were exported outside of West Germany.

This ‘60 Rekford Olympia was reportedly purchased by the seller from its reported original owner in 1997. The seller tells us the car is kept in climate-controlled storage, but sees frequent usage. It wears a pale sage green finish with a white roof, chrome bumpers, and bright trim over pleated white vinyl and patterned gray cloth upholstery. Power comes from a 1.5-liter inline-four paired with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission.

Work performed since 2025 included performing rust repairs, repainting the hood and engine bay, servicing the engine cooling and brake systems, rebuilding the starter and generator, and reconditioning the fuel tank.

This 1960 Opel Rekord Olympia P1 is now offered at no reserve with partial service records, a copy of the owner’s manual, and Maine registration in the seller’s name.

Additional Information

  • This vehicle is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is offered with transferable Maine registration.

  • From the seller: “We bought this Opel from its first owner who lived in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. It had been his family car and had been cared for locally. After we brought it home to Maine, it lived in our collection and was exercised frequently and kept in a climate-controlled building. This P1 Opel was a new design for 1958 and produced for three years. It was something I had lusted after since high school - so it has been well-loved! I hope that it will go to an appreciative home where it will be enjoyed and maintained as it has been with me. Even though The P1 was very successful, very few were sold here in the U.S. - so yours would be the only one at the Cars and Croissants.”
