Description

In the booming American economy following World War II, a new niche opened up in the automotive world for a second family car - one that could serve as a smaller, around-town runabout, perfect for running a few errands. The Nash Metropolitan served that purpose very well, as it was smaller than a VW Beetle, reportedly sporty to drive, and more useful than a sports car. This Series IV model benefited from a number of improvements over the years, including a slightly larger displacement engine and an external decklid, allowing easier access to the trunk than earlier models.

Highlights

  • Original Austin B-series 1500cc 4-cylinder engine

  • Finished in Red over a Burgundy Red interior with a white top and whitewall tires

  • Significant recent maintenance by the current owner, including fresh brakes, brake pads, brake lines, master cylinder, fuel pump and fuel line, front and rear shocks, rebuilt carburetor, new battery, and all fluids are up to date

  • The consignor states that the mileage displayed on the five-digit odometer is believed to be original at just under 80,000 miles

Features

  • Three-speed manual transmission

  • Spare wheel with cover

  • Smiths interior heater

  • Vent windows

  • External trunk decklid

  • Whitewall tires with Metropolitan logo hubcaps

  • Three-point seatbelts

  • Upgraded radio with USB and two speakers

Known Imperfections

  • Fuel gauge always shows full

  • Some underbody rust

  • Some discoloration on both doors

Included

  • Factory workshop manual, parts catalog, and technical service manual

  • Spare Nash molding strips

Ownership History

The current owner reports buying the car in 2021 from a dealer who had reportedly obtained the car from its original owner in Wisconsin. The previous owner had performed a significant restoration before selling, and the current owner reports adding only 550 miles since purchase.
