Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

By the mid-60s Southern California was engulfed in a car craze, captivating young men like Steven J. Karlock, who became enamored with the Shelby 427 Cobra. Steven's passion for high-quality cars began with a Cobra, extended to Corvettes, and grew to include many legendary marques. Together with his wife, Jackie, he restored and cherished these vehicles. They later moved to Hannibal, Missouri, where they opened Karlock's Museum of Pop Culture in a historic grain depot along the Mississippi River. The museum, showcasing top-tier motorcars and memorabilia, became a Midwest gem. Hagerty Marketplace is honored to present The Karlock’s Collection, offered entirely without reserve.

Buick advertising rightly stated, “All eyes turn when the low-slung Electra 225 convertible sweeps by.” At 221.2 inches in length the top-of-the-line Electra 225 is an imposing sight, with a “wing” theme to the finned rear design, their upper line extending all the way to the windshield. Traditionalists even got something they hadn't seen for several years: VentiPorts or “portholes” that first identified Buick front fenders back in 1949. The 401 cu-in “Wildcat 445” V8 generated 325 horsepower and a stout 445 lb-ft of torque through a new “Turbine Drive” automatic transmission.

Finished in Sable Black paint with contrasting Red and White leather interior as from the factory, this 1960 Buick Electra 225 Convertible was acquired by The Karlock’s Collection in May 2004 from the original owner, Leona Witt of Oconto Falls, Wisconsin. It was purchased new in Sturgis, South Dakota, then shipped to the Witt family in nearby Deadwood since that town had no Buick dealer. Not finding any newer cars to their liking, the first owners had the Buick restored to like-new condition. When purchased in 2004 it showed 91,907 miles, and now displays 92,300 miles on the “Mirromagic” instrument panel.
