Description
"Straight out of tomorrow,” Dodge called it. Introduced as part of Dodge’s K Series trucks, the Sweptside D100 was designed to compete with Chevrolet’s Cameo Carrier and Ford’s Ranchero, offering a stylish alternative to the traditional utilitarian trucks of the era. The Sweptside’s most distinctive feature was its rear fenders, “Signal Tower” taillights, and rear bumper, which were all borrowed from the “Forward Look” ’57 Dodge station wagons. Burt Nagos of Dodge Truck’s Special Equipment Group added these items in a separate operation after final assembly. Also added was the striking two-tone paint, chrome wheel covers and chrome trim.
The rest of the 1957–59 Sweptside truck was standard K Series Custom Cab. In 1957, an L-head inline-six was standard, but a new “polyspherical” 315 ci-in V8 was available with 204 horsepower; and numerous improvements included a hood that opened completely, power steering and brakes, tubeless tires, a new optional pushbutton three-speed truck-rated “Loadflite” automatic transmission, and a 12-volt electrical system.
Production records were lost in the 1970s, but the Standard Catalog of American Trucks Second Edition states only 1,050 of these hand-crafted trucks were produced in 1957, though some sources state much smaller numbers. And this older restoration has the desirable 315 V8 and push-button automatic.

Ownership History
The owner purchased this truck in January 2014. The Santa Monica-based classic car dealership who consigned the truck stated they got the truck in 2012 in a collection of cars from the estate of a local collector, and believed the truck had been in southern California for quite a number of years. The truck has clearly been at least cosmetically restored at some point, with body and paint, interior, engine and transmission, bed floor, and most chrome and stainless appearing to have been restored before his purchase. There is no documentation on the restoration, and very few miles have been added in the 11 years that the consignor has owned it.
