Mercury unveiled the Montclair as its premium sedan, now slotting in above the Monterey, in 1955. Alongside the four-door Monterey, the Montclair debuted as a two-door hardtop or convertible. In order to distinguish itself, the Montclair received a color-contrast panel below the window line, for coupes typically matching the roof color.
The 292 cubic-inch V8, shared with the Ford Thunderbird roadster, produced 195 horsepower, and could be optioned with either a three-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment included cloth and vinyl upholstery, full interior carpeting and chrome window moldings.
This 1955 features a refinished exterior in its correct and vibrant Yukon Yellow, while the interior’s restoration features period-correct two-tone black and white vinyl and cloth combination, accented with elegant silver threading. A new black canvas top was included within the restoration, as well as wide whitewall tires and dual side mirrors.
