A factory hot rod Lincoln? Forget the ponderous land yachts often produced by Ford’s luxury division, in the first half of the fifties Lincoln boasted, “The first function of a fine car is outstanding performance.” Witness the 1952 Carrera Panamericana road race; Lincolns finished this marathon event 1-2-3-4 in class. Next year? Exact same results.
“Feel the Go in Lincoln” the ’54 brochure proclaimed. The 1954 model continued to build on the success of its predecessors. The Capri was powered by a stout 317.5 cubic inch Lincoln Y-block V8 engine, “the most efficient in Lincoln history,” which delivered impressive performance for a luxury car of its era. This engine was paired with a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission sourced from GM, providing a smooth, effortless driving experience.
The 1954 Capri featured race-proven ball-joint front suspension, cutting edge for the time. It possessed a sleek and stylish exterior, with a distinctive front grille and elegant lines, along with an optional Continental Kit with extended rear fenders. The interior was equally luxurious, with high-quality materials that provided a comfortable and sophisticated driving experience. The result Lincoln claimed was “performance and design in perfect balance.”
This 1954 Lincoln Capri Special Custom is stated to be largely original and underwent recent service and refurbishment to ensure its in excellent condition, both mechanically and cosmetically. The color is the factory-correct code (9) Columbia Blue and is well-appointed with options and special accessories.
