Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
“The car that dares to ask: Why not have beauty and performance too?” The 1951 Ford Custom Tudor Sedan marked the final year of Ford’s first postwar redesign, often referred to as the “shoebox” Ford for its slab-sided, pontoon styling. Introduced on 2 November, 1950, the 1951 models featured a more refined look with a lowered hood, a bold dual-spinner grille, and a wraparound front bumper that gave the car a wider, more modern appearance. Designed under George Walker and Joe Oros, the Custom Tudor was part of Ford’s top trim line and offered both six-cylinder and flathead V8 engines, with the 239 cu-in V8 being especially popular.
This model also introduced the Fordomatic automatic transmission, a significant innovation for ease of driving. The interior featured durable “Craftcord” upholstery and a key-turn ignition system. The Tudor (two-door) sedan was a practical choice for families, combining style with utility. Its popularity was immense — Ford sold over a million vehicles in 1951, with the Custom line contributing significantly to that success.
This restored 1951 Ford Custom Tudor Sedan has period-correct upgrades to enhance the old-school vibe — just as Ford called the Custom that year: “It’s the Belle of the Boulevard.”
