Description

For the third and final year of this model, Ford advertising boasted “You can pay more—but you can't buy better!” Ford’s first true post-war design emerged in July 1948 and was quickly nicknamed the “Shoebox Ford” for its slab-sided pontoon fenders. The new ’49 Ford was available with an economical inline-six or the famed 239 cu-in “Flathead” V8 engine in a range of body styles, returning Ford to first place in sales among American manufacturers. They also introduced “Fordomatic” drive, their first automatic transmission, though most buyers chose the tried-and-true manual, with overdrive an option. 

“Here are a few of the 43 ‘look ahead’ features in the ’51 Ford!” Changes mostly encompassing new exterior trim featuring a crest emblem that would remain on full-size models for the next four decades. The “Key-Turn Starter” replaced the push button start, and the “Safety-Glow Control Panel” made driving at night easier.  

“Take your pick of 16 models!” The Custom Deluxe V8 series featured the top trim level for Ford, and the sporty V8 Tudor Sedan was a popular model.

Ownership History 

A professional restoration was recently completed and consisted of only 100 percent NOS components for both the mechanical elements as well as all of the cosmetic components. It is a highly optioned Ford that features optional overdrive as well. It joined The Carolina Collection in 2020.
