Description

Ford was the first of the Big Three automakers to enter the pickup market in 1925. However, it was Chevrolet who became the top truck-seller in Detroit by the time of World War II. After resuming civilian truck production in August 1945, Chevy released the new “Advance Design” pickups in May 1947. These models were wider, longer, and lower than the prewar leftovers sold in 1946. They had a modern appearance and featured a unique “alligator” hood that was hinged at the rear. Although the Advance Design trucks remained largely unchanged throughout the 1950s, Chevy continued to outsell all of its competitors, including Ford's new F-series models that entered the market in 1948.

Highlights

  • Powered by a ‘Thriftmaster’ 216.5 cu-in inline six-cylinder engine with overhead valves mated to a three-speed, floor-shifted manual transmission

  • The engine was rebuilt during a restoration that was completed in the early 2000s

  • Finished in a classic, two-tone black-and-white color scheme

  • The interior is upholstered in brown vinyl with the black and white theme continuing on the painted surfaces

  • Stained oak bed floor with a black rubberized bedliner sprayed on the metal sides

  • Retained by the current owner’s family for the past 16 years

  • Please note that while the odometer displays just under 20,000 miles, the true mileage is unknown
