Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Huntsville, Alabama — or “Rocket City,” as we know it — is home to NASA rocket-propulsion research and development. Nothing quite encapsulates the launch and excitement of the region as this out-of-world collection of cars including movie cars and tributes, desirable classics, and a rocket truck itself. 3… 2… 1… These cars are ready for blastoff, and all will be launched to new homes and garages as all lots are presented with NO RESERVE. * * * Ford’s first true post-war design emerged in July 1948 and was quickly nicknamed the “Shoebox Ford” for its slab-sided pontoon fenders. The new ’49 Ford was available with an inline-six or a “Flathead” V8 engine in a range of body styles, returning Ford to first place in sales among American manufacturers.
The following model year, Ford advertising boasted “50 Ways New For ’50,” with changes mostly encompassing new exterior trim and a crest emblem that would remain on full-size models for the next four decades. The Custom Deluxe V8 series featured the top trim level for Ford, and the Convertible model was among its top sellers.
“If there’s a touch of gypsy in your soul ... if you like the sun and the wind and the open road ... you'll surely thrill to this sleek, stunning convertible,” the 1950 sales brochure assured potential buyers. “A slight touch of the finger, and the snug top goes up or down. A slight touch of the foot, and you're sailing off to faraway places behind Ford’s smooth, easy power.”
Today, 1949-51 Fords like this 1950 Custom Deluxe Convertible are still ideal for “sailing off to faraway places.”
