Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Introduced as part of Buick’s redesigned 1950 lineup, the Special Deluxe Tourback Sedan (known as the Model 41D) featured the division’s distinctive tooth-like grille, three Venti Ports on each side of the hood, and a modern envelope body that was wider and roomier than its predecessors.
The Tourback body style combined a traditional sedan profile with a separate trunk, and the Special Deluxe trim added bright exterior moldings and upgraded interior appointments. Power came from Buick’s 248ci Fireball overhead-valve inline-eight engine, paired with a manual transmission or the optional Dynaflow automatic, which used a torque converter to provide most of the ratio changes.
This example was refinished in black with a dark gray top circa 2021, over a gray interior with wool seat upholstery. The front seat currently wears a gray cover, while the rear seat is covered in a plaid-patterned cloth with black vinyl bolsters and red piping. Additional features include a split windshield, three-piece rear window, hydraulic drum brakes, independent front suspension with coil springs, rear live axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, full instrumentation, and an AM radio.
The seller reports that he purchased the Buick in 1980 from the daughter of the original owner, and that the car has been registered in New Jersey from new.
This 1950 Buick Special Deluxe Tourback Sedan is now offered with a clean New Jersey title in the owner’s name.

Additional Information
The seller states, "My Buick was repainted less than five years ago using a clear coat base coat and two-tone black bottom/dark grey top using a 1950 Buick Special paint chart. The chrome is excellent to very good, I have replated much.
"I have owned the car since 1980, having purchased it from the daughter of the original owner, who had passed away. The car originally came from the North Jersey area, then went to Pleasantville, New Jersey, where I purchased it. The daughter only drove it briefly before selling it to me.
"Since purchasing it I have done a lot of mechanical reconditioning. I can provide a complete list of all work done throughout the years. The 248ci OHV straight engine runs and sounds like new; no oil burning. No vibration when running. The Dynaflow works well, too. The inside upholstery is also excellent, the gray wool seats have always been covered; the rear seat still has its excellent dealer installed cover on it.
"Please note that I cannot road test the car because either a brake cylinder or master cylinder has failed and it’s leaking! The car can be moved OK using the emergency brake.
"Also, the heater/defroster and all lights, turn signals, brake lights, dash lights, and gauges work. However, although the AM radio turns on and warms up, it only hums. It used to work; I'm told the vibrator needs to be replaced. The electric clock also used to work, but it’s disconnected due to battery drainage since the car sits so much in the garage.
"A lot has been reconditioned mechanically throughout the 45 years I have owned it. The body was completely stripped or sanded for the repaint, plus much chrome was either replaced with NOS, polished or replated. I started collecting what I needed as soon as I purchased it. I can provide a list of mechanical work done throughout my time. I have many extra parts, etc., which will go with the car.
"Buick used the hood side opening design for 1950, and the hood opens and closes OK, but it will need some better alignment to work perfectly. Two guys working together can do this work."
