The 1949 model year was a big one for the Big Three automakers, as each introduced their first totally new, designed-from-scratch “post war” models. With General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler vying for the same eager car buyers, Chevrolet led the way with Fleetline (fastback) and Styleline designs, which could be had in entry-level Special or upmarket De Luxe versions. In all, there were 14 new models to choose from.

The 1949 Chevrolet grille incorporated five "teeth" and had round parking lights on each side of the center section, as well as recessed headlights, wrap-around bumpers, inbody fenders, push-button door handles, and slender vertical taillights. Chevrolet’s 1949 brochure touted the cars as “longer, lower, and wider” than previous models.

The interior had cloth bench seats and a metal dash — sometimes with a simulated burl wood grain. The radio was a simple mono vacuum tube type radio with integrated speaker. The most economical De Luxe model was the De Luxe Styleline two-door sedan, which could be had for $1,492, equal to about $19,695 today.

This particular Styleline De Luxe two-door sedan was used in Season Four of the dark comedy/crime drama TV series Fargo in 2020.
