Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Huntsville, Alabama — or “Rocket City,” as we know it — is home to NASA rocket-propulsion research and development. Nothing quite encapsulates the launch and excitement of the region as this out-of-world collection of cars including movie cars and tributes, desirable classics, and a rocket truck itself. 3… 2… 1… These cars are ready for blastoff, and all will be launched to new homes and garages as all lots are presented with NO RESERVE. * * * “Expect to be looked at-admired-and envied when you get behind the wheel of a beautiful Chrysler Convertible, because here is a car that youthful and mature motorists alike would like to own.” — 1947 Chrysler brochure
The 1940–1953 Highlander was a unique model in the history of Chrysler automobiles. Introduced first as part of the New Yorker and later the Windsor lineup, the Highlander package added a touch of Scottish flair to the Windsor, featuring distinctive plaid upholstery and moleskin leather for a $25 upcharge. The 1947 Windsor was built on a 121.5-inch wheelbase and powered by “… one of the fleetest and sweetest engines you ever drove—smooth as velvet—at a snail’s pace or at the speed of the wind,” the 250 cubic inch “Spitfire” straight-six engine, which produced 114 horsepower. This engine was paired with Chrysler’s innovative Fluid Drive transmission, a semi-automatic that was quite advanced for its time.
In 1947 the Highlander was available in a variety of body styles, including the striking Convertible Coupe starting at $1,860, the ultimate expression of “…grace, beauty, and charm in its long, low, symmetrical lines.”
