“Here is the new Ford!” Following the end of World War II in September 1945, civilian car production in America slowly resumed, with most manufacturers making small changes to their pre-war designs. Ford picked up where it had left off in 1942, with some updates and improvements. It featured a more modern and streamlined design, characterized by a new grille with horizontal bars, a wider stance, and a more robust appearance.
Also new was its 239 cu-in engine, previously used in Mercurys and Ford trucks and capable of 100 horsepower, mated to a column-shift three-speed manual transmission. The car also came with hydraulic brakes and upgraded suspension.
This 1946 Ford Super Deluxe remained within the same family for a quarter of a century. A testament to its originality, the car still displays its authentic 1946 Pennsylvania inspection sticker. This classic Ford is further enhanced by a selection of desirable optional equipment, including a deluxe factory radio for period-correct entertainment, a heater for added comfort in cooler climates, and a spotlight for enhanced visibility. The vehicle also features dual exhaust with chrome extensions, correct wide whitewall tires complemented by beauty rings, and dual cowl-mounted rearview mirrors for improved safety and aesthetics. Adding to its provenance, this Ford Convertible was reportedly showcased at the prestigious Dearborn Auto Museum for a significant duration. Its exceptional condition and authenticity have been recognized with numerous Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) awards earned since October 1980, underscoring its enduring appeal and meticulous preservation.
