Description

When World War II ended in late 1945, civilian car production in America slowly resumed, with most manufacturers making small changes to their pre-war designs. Ford picked up where it had left off in 1942; along with some updates, its new model would be available in several body styles, including coupes, sedans, station wagons, and convertibles, catering to a wide range of customers. All versions featured a more modern and streamlined design, characterized by a new grille with horizontal bars, a wider stance, and a more robust appearance.

Also new were hydraulic brakes, an upgraded suspension, and a 239 cu-in engine that was previously used in Mercury and Ford trucks and capable of 100 horsepower. Ford boasted, “With a new, smooth ride that’s a revelation, you’ll find it more fun to drive than any car you ever owned.”

And there’s even more fun to be had with this 1946 Super Deluxe Coupe, as it is powered by a modified 350 cubic-inch V8 mated to a newer three-speed transmission, rides on an upgraded suspension with a Mustang II front end, and stops reliably with front disc brakes mounted under striking red wheels.

Ownership History

The consignor states, “This car has been in our family for 15 years. My brother spent time working on it and putting a new engine in. And other improvements have been made over the years, including a new fuel tank, fuel pump, water pump, and exhaust system. The odometer reads 74,707 because it has not been reset; however, the motor and many components of the build have way fewer miles on them.”
