The 1942 Lincoln Continental Coupe is a rare and elegant symbol of pre-war American luxury, representing the final chapter of Lincoln’s first-generation Continental before World War II halted civilian automobile production. Conceived by Edsel Ford and designed by Bob Gregorie, the Continental began as a custom car for Edsel himself, evolving into a production model that blended European-inspired styling with American craftsmanship.
The 1942 model featured a bold, refined design with a longer hood, a shortened rear deck, and the signature rear-mounted spare tire — later known as the “Continental kit.” Its sweeping fenders and broad grille gave it a commanding presence, while the coupe’s seamless roofline added to its graceful silhouette. Inside, the cabin was richly appointed with leather upholstery and fine wood trim.
Under the hood, the Continental Coupe was powered by a 305 cubic-inch V12 engine producing 130 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque, paired with a three-speed manual transmission.
Approximately 200 coupes were produced in 1942 before wartime restrictions ended production, making it one of the rarest Lincolns ever built. This one, in fact, was delivered new to Oklahoma City on 15 December 1941, one week after the U.S. entered World War II.
