Description

Economic challenges during the Great Depression reduced demand for Packard’s senior models, prompting the company to introduce a more accessible option without compromising quality. In 1937, Packard launched the Six, sharing engineering with the 120 but priced competitively—less than $200 above a comparable Ford. This strategy broadened Packard’s market reach while preserving its reputation.

By 1940, the Six evolved into the 110 series, powered by a 245-cubic-inch inline six. The 110 offered multiple body styles, including sedans, coupes, convertibles, and station wagons. In its first year, sales exceeded 63,000 units. Among these, the wood-bodied station wagon was the most limited and costly option. Hercules Body Company of Evansville, Indiana, produced only 358 wagons for Packard’s 110 and 120 lines in 1941, with approximately 300 on the 110 chassis.

This 1941 Packard 110 Station Wagon with Hercules coachwork reportedly spent its early years in California, later joining the Movieworld Cars of the Stars Museum and appearing in the 1976 film Gable and Lombard. Retaining original finishes and components, the car reflects careful preservation rather than restoration. As one of roughly 300 built, it represents a rare prewar Packard synonymous with gracious living, favored by pre-war families at country estates and seaside resorts for their combination of utility and style.
