Description
“Styled for beauty — built for utility.” The 1941 Ford 11A Station Wagon, part of the Super De Luxe line, marked a pivotal moment in Ford’s pre-war automotive evolution. Built on a 114-inch wheelbase — two inches longer than its predecessor — it featured a more spacious interior and wider doors that partially covered the running boards. The 11A designation referred to the Super De Luxe trim, which included upscale features like chrome accents, improved upholstery, and additional dashboard instrumentation.
This model was powered by Ford’s reliable 221 cubic-inch Flathead V8 engine, delivering 90 horsepower, and was paired with a three-speed manual transmission. The station wagon body was a striking blend of hand-crafted maple and birch wood, sourced and assembled at Ford’s Iron Mountain plant in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. These “woodies” were both functional and fashionable, often used by resorts, parks, and affluent families as a symbol of status long before the advent of Escalades and Range Rovers. They also became a symbol of California’s surf culture in the 1960s.
The U.S. entered World War II in December 1941, which halted civilian car manufacturing. As a result, the 1941 Ford 11A Station Wagon is both rare and cherished, and this one is believed to be unrestored and amazingly preserved from new.
