Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1940 LaSalle Series 50 represents the final chapter of General Motors’ LaSalle marque, a companion brand to Cadillac that was produced from 1927 through 1940. LaSalle was created to fill the price and prestige gap between Buick and Cadillac, offering Cadillac‑level engineering at a more accessible price.
By 1940, the Series 50 retained the slab‑sided body design of the previous year, featured the Cadillac‑built 322‑cubic‑inch V8 producing 130 horsepower, and could be had as a Coupe, Sedan, or Convertible. Though LaSalle sales reached about 24,000 units in 1940 — its second‑best year — the brand struggled against competitors like Packard and increasingly overlapped with Cadillac’s market, and it was discontinued in August 1940.
This 1940 LaSalle Series 50 Coupe was overhauled by Marshall Krause Restoration in its current dark maroon metallic paint, refinished wheel centers and trim rings with chrome hubcaps, new chrome and stainless trim, and a restored engine with chrome dress-up kit. Interior features include brown wool upholstery on its seats, door panels, kick panels, sun visors, and headliner; maroon short-pile Wilton wool carpeting and matching leather-bound floor mats; refinished dashboard: and refurbished instrumentation.
The 1940 LaSalle Series 50 is now represented at no reserve by a Broad Arrow Specialist with an original sales brochure, Cadillac & LaSalle 1939-41 Shop Manual, jack, and a clean Florida title in the current owner's name.
