Utilizing Ford’s latest high-powered, 85 horsepower, flathead V-8, the 1939 Ford De Luxe Coupe was advertised as ‘A convenient, modern car… Especially desirable for business or professional use’. Offering customers a comfortable cabin along with a large luggage compartment, De Luxe variants were further equipped with many luxurious appointments such as a golden mahogany finish dashboard and cigar lighter with ashtray.
Advertised with 85 horsepower from new as configured for De Luxe models, these robust flathead V-8 powerplants would prove to be the perfect platform for hot rodders to modify, resulting in a plentiful aftermarket community soon developing around improving the performance of these iconic American coupes. As some of the early examples that began to resemble the silhouette followed by modern vehicle styling, the Ford V-8 also sped up the pace expected for customers of their automobiles and remain remarkably drivable on modern roads.
This 1939 Ford Coupe was previously restored throughout. It is refinished in the proper code (1090) Dartmouth Green exterior paint, with a mohair interior and felt headliner. The vehicle is outfitted with beauty trim rings, wide white wall tires, front and rear bumper guards, AM radio, glove box clock, dual side mirrors and a locking gas cap. The vehicle shows 32,385 miles on the odometer and received a recent mechanical tune-up.
