The 1939 Cadillac Series 61 Convertible embodied the final flourish of prewar American luxury, blending graceful styling with the engineering confidence that defined Cadillac as the "Standard of the World." Introduced as part of the brand’s effort to broaden its market reach, the Series 61 offered Cadillac prestige at a more accessible price point while retaining the marque’s hallmark refinement. Power came from the smooth and durable 346ci L‑head V8, celebrated for its effortless torque delivery. Combined with independent front suspension, the Series 61 provided a notably composed and comfortable ride.
The 1939 Convertible reflected Harley Earl’s evolving design language, featuring flowing fenders, a tapered rear deck, and an integrated grille that suggested the streamlined aesthetic just beginning to influence automotive form. Its folding soft top allowed a seamless transition from enclosed comfort to open‑air touring, making it equally suitable for urban boulevards or relaxed country drives. The model also coincided with the streamlined themes showcased at the 1939 New York World’s Fair, where such futurist design cues captured the public's imagination.
Of the 5,913 Series 61 units produced for 1939, an estimated 350 were convertibles (Cadillac did not record production by body style), with no more than a handful believed to exist, underscoring its rarity.
This 1939 Cadillac Series 61 Convertible is now represented at no reserve by a Broad Arrow Specialist in Georgia with uninstalled spare parts and a clean Alabama title in the current owner's name.
