34-Years-Owned, ZZ4-Powered 1935 Chevrolet Standard Coupe Street Rod

By the 1960s, aging pre-war car enthusiasts wanted to build cars they could drive every day comfortably and long distances, so the focus shifted from pure speed to reliability and comfort, sparking the street rod movement. Unlike stripped-down, loud, and stiff hot rods, street rods featured updated interiors, modern suspension, and reliable V8 engines. In 1970, the first Street Rod Nationals event was held in Peoria, Illinois, leading to the formation of the National Street Rod Association.

This ‘35 Chevy Coupe was built into a street rod by Batch’s Rods & Custom Cars of Mountain Home, Idaho, and was featured on the cover of the International Show Car Association’s (ISCA) Show Stopper magazine in June 1990 before being acquired by the seller in 1992. The steel Standard Coupe body has been chopped and fitted with a fiberglass rear splash pan, fenders, and running boards, ribbed billet bumpers, billet sideview mirrors, and aftermarket taillights.

The interior is trimmed in tan leather and velour upholstery and features modern bucket seats with adjustable headrests and lap belts as well as a tilt column, billet handles and trim, VDO instrumentation, and a fabricated lower dashboard panel that houses a Pioneer cassette stereo, an analog clock, HVAC controls, and the cruise control switch.

The ZZ4 350ci V8 is equipped with a Holley carburetor, a polished Edelbrock intake manifold, and tubular exhaust headers, and it powers the rear wheels through an automatic transmission. The chassis has been fitted with Heidts Mustang II-style independent front suspension, a four-link rear setup, adjustable coilovers, a driveshaft hoop, front disc brakes, and staggered 14” and 15” Weld Racing Rodlite wheels.

This modified 1935 Chevrolet Standard Coupe is now offered with a clean Idaho title in the seller’s name.

From the seller: “I have owned the vehicle for 34 years, and during that time I have upgraded things along the way such as a crate motor ZZ4, Heidts independent front suspension, heat, a/c, and cruise control. I’ve driven all over the Northwest and California. It drives straight and handles fantastic. The body is steel with glass fenders, running boards, and rear splash pan.”
