Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Priced at around $1,250 when new, the Auburn 12-161 Sedan would feature a twelve-cylinder Lycoming V12 engine rated at an impressive 160 horsepower which was one of the top-of-the-line vehicles offered by the Auburn Automobile Company. As one of the brands owned by E.L. Cord, a leader in United States transport during the early and middle 20th century, upscale Auburn models would feature some of the same desirable appointments found in the high-end Cord and Duesenberg cousin brands. This relationship allowed for these vehicles to be offered at a competitive price which made them a relative bargain in the twelve-cylinder class. Despite their attractive price, demand for luxury automobiles continued to plummet during The Great Depression which means that very few of these automobiles were ever ordered, and even fewer survived.

Ownership History

According to information provided by the consignor, this vehicle was purchased by his father-in-law from the previous owner who owned the Auburn in the state of Washington. Sometime in the late 1980s, the previous owner is said to have commissioned a restoration shop in Arlington, Washington to rebuild the motor. The previous owner would boast about the car's impressive performance and reliability after driving it from Washington to California and back! The consignor recalls an issue with the fuel tank as the reason for the Auburn being parked approximately ten years ago.
