283-Powered ‘29 Ford Roadster Hot Rod

Description

The Model A Ford was a popular choice for hot rodders since they were plentiful, cheap, and featured a simple, lightweight, and sturdy body-on-frame design. This combination made them a legendary blank canvas for customization, especially in its roadster variation.

By the 1950s, it was hard to find rust-free Henry Ford Steel ripe for customization, so industry manufacturers began producing reproduction bodies and frames, and in the 1970s, Brookville released the first all-steel reproduction Model A body.

This Model A hot rod was acquired in 2019 by the seller, who reports the car was built by Black Dog Garage in Florida approximately 12 years ago. The car features a steel body, reportedly supplied by Brookville, mounted atop a boxed ‘32-style chassis equipped with dropped front axle, stainless steel hairpin radius rods, a Vega-style steering box, and chrome Bilstein shocks.

Power comes from a 283ci Chevy V8 that has been bored .030” over and is equipped with an Offenhauser intake manifold, three Rochester carburetors, “Rams Horn” exhaust headers, finned valve covers, electronic ignition, and a “heavy-duty” radiator with an electric cooling fan. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission and a Winters Performance quick-change rear end. The bench seat, door panels, and side panels are trimmed in red Naugahyde complemented by color-coordinated German square weave carpeting that extends to the trunk. Additional details include a LimeWorks steering column, Stewart-Warner instrumentation, an Auburn-style gauge panel, a ‘32-style grille, and 15” steel wheels with 1940 Ford hubcaps.

This Model A hot rod is now offered with Connecticut registration listing it as a 1929 Ford Roadster.
