Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1929 Durant 6‑66 Coupe was introduced during a major product overhaul at Durant Motors, reflecting founder William C. “Billy” Durant’s ongoing effort to rebuild his automotive empire after his departure from General Motors.
In 1929, the company launched an expanded lineup that included several new six‑cylinder models—among them the Model 6‑66, a mid‑priced car aimed at competing with mainstream American manufacturers. Like other Durant automobiles of the era, the 6‑66 was an assembled car, built from high‑quality outsourced components, most notably Continental 185ci six‑cylinder engines and Budd‑supplied bodies. This approach allowed Durant Motors to offer refined performance and contemporary styling at a competitive price point.
The Coupe variant provided a fashionable two‑door, closed‑body design with rumble seat that appealed to buyers seeking an upscale yet affordable automobile. Its introduction coincided with Durant’s largest lineup expansion, which also included the 6‑60, 6‑63, 6‑70, and others—all forming part of the company’s final push for financial stability. Despite the promise of the 6‑66, the economic pressures of the early Depression years hindered Durant Motors, and by 1932 the company collapsed.
This 1929 Durant 6-66 Coupe is now represented at no reserve by a Broad Arrow Specialist with a clean Florida title in the current owner's name.
