Description
On a cool March day in 2004, GM High-Tech Performance magazine’s Steve Baur powershifted a bone-stock 2004 Corvette Z06 down Englishtown’s famed quarter mile to a shocking 11.97 ET at 118 mph. Even in the hands of regular drivers, 2001–2004 C5 Z06s easily ran mid-12s or quicker — thanks to the groundbreaking LS6 engine.
The 5.7L LS6 was a factory-tuned evolution of the LS1 featuring high-flow cylinder heads, a high-lift camshaft, and a revised intake, all working together to deliver 405 horsepower. Power was sent through a close-ratio 6-speed manual, and the Z06’s hardtop body wore a titanium exhaust and thinner windshield glass, tipping the scales at just 3,118 pounds — about 100 pounds lighter than the Corvette coupe.
Beyond its mind-bending performance, just listening to the LS6 scream to its 6,500-rpm redline gave drivers chills. In its 2004 10 Best list, Car and Driver stated, “In the lightened Z06 coupe, a Corvette driver is in for a visceral thrill not easily matched elsewhere for similar money.”
This 2004 Z06 has just 33,500 miles and is finished in black, making it one of 1,186 built that year. It features mild modifications that can be easily reversed, and it comes with a clean Carfax History Report.
