Ford’s fourth generation Mustang was unveiled with the 1994 model, codenamed internally and now referred to by enthusiasts as the SN95 Mustang. The design was based on an updated version of the Fox platform and would be the final generation underpinned with this platform. The SN95 design focused on improving the car’s handling with the use of MacPherson struts with longer control arms, sway bars and spindles. After winning 1994 Motor Trend Car of the Year, Ford introduced a mid-generation facelift in 1999, which are now referred to by Ford fanatics as the New Edge Mustang, which featured sharper contours, larger wheel arches, and creases in the bodywork, replacing many of the soft lines of the previous model. 

Ford’s performance division, dubbed “Special Vehicle Team” or SVT, was busy fine tuning the Mustang for peak performance across both the SN95 and New Edge. In 2003, SVT debuted the “Terminator” Cobra, distinguished by its supercharged 4.6-liter Dual Overhead Cam V8 engine. Famed automotive executive John Coletti had taken the reigns of SVT in 1993 after the team first launched as SVO in 1991.

The Mustang SVT Cobra was one of Coletti’s many successes at Ford, in addition to the SVT Lightning, SVT Focus and Cobra R. The production performance team would eventually evolve into modern day Ford Performance, merging with Team RS and Ford Racing.   This Mustang SVT Cobra is one of 5,082 convertibles produced in 2003 and has been driven less than 10,000 miles since it rolled off the factory floor.
