“It takes a substantial dose of gut instinct and the desire to show the world what you're made of. Nothing shows it better than the new Firebird Trans Am Collector Edition.” — Pontiac
The 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Collector Edition marked the final chapter of the iconic Firebird line, celebrating 35 years of performance and style. Introduced as a limited-production model, it was available only in bright Collector Yellow with bold black and silver graphics, including a screaming chicken on the hood—a nod to the legendary 1970s Trans Ams. Contractor American Specialty Cars (ASC) was tapped to add the graphics and other unique features.
Built on the F-body platform, the Collector Edition was powered by a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 engine producing 325 horsepower, and all were equipped with the WS6 Ram Air performance package. Buyers could choose between a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Performance upgrades included a freer-flowing exhaust, stiffer suspension, and 17-inch black-painted aluminum wheels with polished lips. The Collector Edition was the Official Pace Car of the Daytona 500 that year, with Motor Trend reporting, “The short translation: the car needs no performance modifications to handle high-speed track duty.”
Inside, the car featured ebony leather seats embroidered with the Collector Edition logo, along with unique badging and a numbered dash plaque. Only 2,390 coupes and convertibles were produced.
As the last hurrah for the Firebird before Pontiac ceased production of the model, the 2002 Collector Edition stands as a tribute to the brand’s muscle car legacy — blending retro flair with modern excitement. And this rare two-owner Z15 Collector Edition convertible shows just 43,615 miles from new.
