The 1996 Suzuki Jimny JA22W is a compact, off-road-capable kei car produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market. As part of the second generation of Jimnys, the JA22W featured a 657cc F6A DOHC turbocharged engine delivering 64 horsepower to comply with Japan’s kei car regulations. The Jimny was equipped with part-time 4WD, a ladder-frame chassis, and a rugged suspension setup, making it a favorite among off-road enthusiasts despite its small size.

The JA22W was never officially sold outside Japan, making it a rare and desirable import. Due to U.S. federal regulations, vehicles not originally built to meet American safety and emissions standards must be at least 25 years old to be legally imported. As a result, the JA22W only became eligible for U.S. import in 2021. Since then, it has gained a cult following for its retro styling, capable drivetrain, and mod-friendly platform.
