Description
“Rightly so, the craft of coachbuilding has acquired something of the status of a black art,” said Rolls-Royce. Introduced in the early 1970s as a two‑door, drophead companion to the Silver Shadow, the Corniche was conceived as a rolling expression of refinement and effortless power.
The Corniche was assembled almost entirely by hand at Mulliner Park Ward, each example is said to have taken five months to create. Each body panel was individually formed and fitted, lead‑loaded, and finished. Inside, the Corniche used Connolly leather hides, while the dashboards and door caps were finished in book‑matched Lombardy walnut veneers. Wilton lambswool carpeting, thick sound deadening, and chrome or stainless detailing reinforced the sense of permanence. Even the West of England broadcloth power convertible top took two weeks to build.
The fuel-injected 6.75‑liter V8 was engineered for near‑silent operation. Traditional steel springs with advanced hydraulic self‑leveling suspension ensured the famous Rolls‑Royce “waft,” isolating passengers from road imperfections. Just 2,017 Corniche convertibles were produced from 1977 to 1987.
This '84 Corniche was purchased new from Rolls-Royce of Beverly Hills in California. It has been refinished in Royal Blue over tan leather with dark blue piping.
This 1984 Rolls Royce Corniche Series I is now offered with manuals and books, an accident-free CARFAX, Vehicle History Report, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
