The 1980 Catalina — built on GM’s B-body platform and a member of the model’s fifth and final generation — featured a more squared-off, conservative styling compared to earlier years, reflecting the era’s move toward efficiency and practicality. It was offered in sedan and coupe body styles, with a spacious interior and traditional body-on-frame construction.

Engine options for 1980 included a 3.8-liter V6 and several V8s, including the 4.9-liter unit seen here; most Catalinas came with a three-speed automatic transmission. Notable features included power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, and Radial-tuned suspension (RTS) for improved ride and handling.
