Description
Introduced in 1969, the Porsche 914 was a bold joint venture between Porsche and Volkswagen aimed at delivering a mid-engine sports car to a broader market. With its low-slung profile, targa roof, and balanced chassis, the 914 offered a driving experience unlike anything else in its price range. The 914 has since earned a loyal following for its nimble handling, mechanical simplicity, and motorsport pedigree.
This 1972 Porsche 914 is a two-owner car originally finished in silver and repainted red by the first owner. After a period of storage, it was reportedly acquired by the current owner and trailered to Colorado, where it received a refreshed interior. The seller claims over $25,000 in service/repairs have been completed under their ownership, emphasizing, “We always tried to use original parts.”
Partial service records from the original owner along with more recent documentation and vehicle history documentation accompany the sale.

Ownership History
The seller acquired this 914 from a friend’s estate in 1997 and refreshed it over the years. Verified by purchase and estate documents, the seller’s friend was the original owner, making this a true two-owner example.
The seller shares the following history of the vehicle, “Gary [first owner and friend of the seller] received this Porsche as a graduation gift from his family after completing his degree at CU in 1973. He brought the car with him to Boston for medical school, and after graduating, his career took him to several locations: Cleveland Clinic for a few years, then Texas, Arkansas, California, and eventually Casper, Wyoming.
Following his time in Cleveland, the car was mostly kept in storage. It remained stored again while he was in Casper. After Gary’s passing, I acquired the car in 1997.
I’ve compiled mileage records from license plate change forms and service documents, both from Gary’s ownership and mine, as follows:
10/17/1985 – 45,556 miles
10/09/1987 – 45,580 miles
10/05/1988 – 45,625 miles
06/30/1990 – 45,635 miles
1997 (purchase) – 46,254 miles
10/02/1998 – 46,915 miles
05/08/2002 – 48,974 miles
05/23/2003 – 48,609 miles
07/21/2006 – 48,969 miles
As you can see, the car has accumulated only about 4,000 miles over the past 40 years, spending most of its time in storage. The odometer has not been rolled back during my ownership, and based on the records and usage pattern, I believe it remained accurate during Gary’s time as well—though of course, there’s no definitive way to prove that.”
