Description
The 1971 Mercedes-Benz 220D is part of the W115 series, known for its timeless design and legendary durability. Powered by a 2.2L inline-four diesel engine (OM615), it delivers around 60 horsepower and excellent fuel economy—making it a favorite among long-distance drivers and collectors alike. Known for its “million-mile” reliability, the 220D has earned a reputation as one of the most dependable diesel sedans of its era.
This 1971 example was refinished in Papyrus White (code 717) under current ownership, complemented by new Mercedes Blue (code 345) leather upholstery supplied by GAHH Automotive. The refurbishment concluded in 2023 and also included an engine-out rebuild, resealing the transmission, bodywork and paint, interior re-upholstery, updated air conditioning, a Bluetooth-capable Becker radio, and more. This 220D is now offered in Los Angeles with service documents and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Additional Information
From the seller, “My love for the W114/W115 series began in the 1970’s during summer vacations. These Mercedes were the taxis in Europe and the Middle East where I would visit family. Upon catching a cab, I was excited to see how the taxi drivers would decorate the interior of their cars, including the steering wheels and center horn pads. I loved the sound and smell of these cars. As an adult, I acquired a 1969 230 and a 1971 220D. Aside from the joy of driving these cars, looking at them takes me back to my youth. Unfortunately, between work and taking care of my kids I don’t have much time to enjoy my W115. As such it sits in my garage as a museum piece.”
