In 1968, the second-generation Chevelle debuted with redesigned sheetmetal, and the buying public went wild for this curvy A-body’s fastback look. A new frame offered a shorter 112-inch wheelbase, and its coil-spring suspension made the Chevelle both a capable performer and a comfortable cruiser.
The Malibu Sport Coupe was the most luxurious trim level; drivers could choose from six- or eight-cylinder powerplants ranging from 140 to 325 horsepower, backed up by 3- or 4-speed manual or 2- or 3-speed automatic transmissions. A total of 15 color choices complemented Malibu’s curved lines and brightwork, and an uplevel interior offered four premium fabrics and deep-twist carpet. Altogether, it made the Malibu a desirable choice for both luxurious and stylish transportation.
This 1968 Chevelle was born a V8-powered Malibu Sport Coupe, but is now dressed in SS 396 trim with a 396ci big block, twin-domed hood, black grille and rear panel, and SS 396 badging. It has been refinished in black, which is complemented by a red interior with bucket seats. To tame its newfound power, it now features front disc brakes, and it is also equipped with an aluminum radiator, headers, and a chrome air cleaner lid and valve covers, along with a steering column-mounted tachometer, under-dash gauges, and a modern stock-location radio.
This 1968 Chevelle Malibu is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean Florida title.
