Description

The 1966 Plymouth Barracuda marked the final year of the first-generation fastback, which had debuted in 1964 as a sporty variant of the Valiant. With its distinctive wraparound rear glass and compact proportions, the ’66 Barracuda offered a blend of style and performance.

In the world of drag racing, the Barracuda quickly earned respect. Lightweight and powerful, it became a favorite among grassroots racers. The 273 Commando, with its solid-lifter cam and four-barrel carburetor, delivered 235 horsepower—enough to make the Barracuda competitive in NHRA’s Stock classes. More notably, the Barracuda laid the groundwork for Mopar’s later development of the legendary HEMI-powered Barracudas that followed in 1968.

This 1966 Barracuda captures the spirit of those early Stock racers. It’s received a comprehensive refresh with performance upgrades, including a 360ci Mopar crate engine with Edelbrock heads and intake. The seller states, “the floor pans were professionally sandblasted and painted, and all painted areas were soda blasted for a high-quality finish” while the “bumpers have been re-chromed, and the remaining trim has been either polished or professionally plated.” A restored interior complement the exterior. Staggered Weld Racing wheels and Firestone Firehawk tires finish the racy look.

This 360-powered Barracuda is now offered on behalf of the seller's father with a service manual and a clean Minnesota title.
