Description
Introduced in 1955 and styled by Pininfarina, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider quickly won over American sports car enthusiasts. By the early 1960s, its lightweight construction and lively 1.3‑liter twin‑cam engine made it an ideal platform for SCCA F‑Production racing, a category where handling and balance often mattered more than sheer power. Privateer teams transformed these graceful Italian roadsters into formidable competitors, and cars such as the Blizzard Performance Spider and the well‑known “Sophia” became legends in West Coast racing circles. Giulietta Spiders ultimately secured notable success, including SCCA Regional Championships at Riverside in 1976 and 1978, with some examples accumulating more than 250 victories, 21 championships, and numerous class lap records.
This street‑driven 1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider embodies the spirit of those grassroots SCCA racers. Under previous ownership, it received an extensive custom build by Alfa Rome specialist Besic Motorsports. The body was heavily reworked and finished in vivid Rosso Corsa, with the paint reportedly remaining in excellent condition. Besic Motorsports also assembled an Alfa Romeo 2.0‑liter twin‑cam engine paired with twin Weber carburetors and a five‑speed manual transmission. The restoration cost is said to have approached $100,000, including roughly $5,000 invested in the seats alone.
This outlaw Giuletta Spider is now represented by a Broad Arrow Specialist with a car cover and a clean Florida title.
