Description
The 1956 Ford Thunderbird marked the second year of the iconic first-generation luxury roadster, bridging the gap between outright sports cars and refined cruisers. Building on the success of the debut 1955 model, Ford enhanced its appeal with a stronger 312ci V8 engine. Distinctive upgrades included the all-new, functional Continental-style external spare tire kit and removable “porthole” hardtop windows that improved rearward visibility—both signature design cues unique to 1956. Other refinements included a 12‑volt electrical system, courtesy interior lights, and color-matched steering wheel and carpets.
This 1956 Ford Thunderbird was reportedly restored in the 1970s under previous ownership in factory Thunderbird Green and features both white soft and hard tops, along with a classic two-tone vinyl interior. Acquired by the seller in 2000, the car retains many original features, including the factory Town & Country radio, while benefiting from thoughtful upgrades such as front disc brakes and front/rear sway bars for improved drivability.
This early T-Bird is now offered with its hardtop, the original 1956 invoice, documentation from a prior restoration including parts receipts, and a clean Texas title.
